Castle stalker – one of the most picturesque castles in Scotland is a few minutes south of Cuil bay, the view is best from the panoramic windows of the castle stalker cafe, but if you don’t want to stop for coffee, there is a public car park by the cafe and a short footpath to a viewpoint.
The corridor at the cafe has some interpretation panels about the history of Castle Stalker and telling the story of the Appin murder, where the murder of a factor on his way to evict Stewarts from Ardsheal led to the hanging of an innocent man.
I had a really lovely warm goats cheese salad when I was in there. The accompanying gooseberry and corriander chutney was such a perfect foil to the goats cheese I bought two jars in the gift shop before we left.
